Sonic Shorts Volume 4

"This is my 4th review for Sonic Shorts."

date: August 6, 2008

Well it WAS better than 3. In terms of both style and humour this is still well enough for a 5, but its still missing something from two that I'm just not feeling... I don't know, I think you have to go back to two and take a look there.

The trouble with these flashes is that they are truly in a class of their own, unless every scene has you laughing buckets, you feel somethings missing. But overall this was still close to perfect.

Finally, a crack at omochao! Another original and funny preloader, whatever's in the movie, I can never fault your preloader. Though you could've done with more messages, that was a long load.

A stylish look at Sonics different forms, not quite synched to the music. But who's going to watch the opening screen for hours anyway? Again, top graphics. Keep it up SonicParadox.

Tails' history as a human (or fox) shield for Sonic continues. Not exactly original, but it was funny. Tails should call childline!

The next one was a disquieting reminder of just why Sonic should get a restraining order out on Amy... too late. A good twist there, earned a chuckle, not much more that I can say...

Knuckles' victimisation begins with him losing a card game to the master emerald, before shattering said emerald. The digs at Knuckles continue enough to make a theme.

Sonics habit of being incredibly cocky and arrogant gets him hurt in the next session. Worth a laugh. Knuckles' pissed off expression was priceless.

Yep, running into giant metal rings, it hurts ya! Laugh out loud moment.

Similar to your "Why the hell am I in a car?" short back in two, Sonic proves to a bemused boarder exactly why he's the fastest thing alive. hilarious expressions.

The next one has something special, its one of the lines that just makes you buckle with laughter. "Unlike Sonic I can chuckle? What the fuck?!!!" priceless. Thats what I mean by originality!

The next one also gets top marks for an original idea. These kind of fresh ideas are what made this series so special! Brilliant frothing.

And another brilliant idea in the next one. Sunny D, nope, you just can't beat it. One of the funniest in the movie.

Sorry, this one just wasn't funny. Good art, bad idea. If it had been Eggman with a jetpack, LOOKING like Sonic from a distance, THAT would've been funny.

What the hell is a bird doing with a fish shaped life-support machine? The dialogue was funny.

Next one was funny if you're into toilet humour... and you get the joke that chilli dogs are supposed to result in a bad gas build-up. Tails' choking was amusing. "cttk... I'm ok..."

Another reason why you shouldn't smoke! Knuckles change of expression (from angry to apologetic) was hilarious.

"springs in a forest?!" priceless. Again, original and among the best for hilarity.

A comment on the SWATbots lamentable accuracy. I was laughing all the way though the chaos. Where the hell did the dog from duck-hunter come from?

"Oh come on, I lost to this idiot?" A satiracal note on the complete departure of the latest games from anything relating to Sonic. SEGA, are you listening?

I don't know what is creepier, but both are pretty creepy. a hilarous kissing noise and a random cat-fight (or half-cat fight, only one was a cat) kept the humour going for Sonic to deliver his priceless punchline, which wouldn't have looked out of place (or less funny) in the original game!

Further victimising Knuckles, this time focussing on his temper. I fear for that Chao.

Good badniks? Good God! Good, think again. The animals line at the end was a funny last touch.

Just as Knuckles thought he was safe, you get to abuse him yourself with your mouse... the reactions leave you laughing out loud as the movie closes and ends things on a definate high.

Overall, this movie was mostly brilliant, and I certainly can't point out any obvious flaws (besides Sally getting splatted by the yoghurt.) Good effort, the quality is definately a rise from Sonic Shorts Vol 3, and easily equal to Sonic Vol 1.

"This works. Make more and work on your style"

Top marks for originality. Nice twist, romance, violence... you get the point, this had all the makings of a good story, and the art was unique. Now make more and develop your craft.

"a curious, unique game"

Very matrixy. I liked it, its good if you want to burn a half-hour or so and excersize your brain a bit. For the final boss... The best offence is an invulnerable defence... after you've got that... make yourself some coffee... or get a drink, or something. Yes this is a cryptic hint. Oh, and if you really are stuck look to reviews below me. The game generally is a twist on your classic guide your puppet through the maze type game. Will there be more?

Oh, and to the deserving gamer, you don't really need any hints beyond the above, the game tells you where to go, just remember where you've been, check everything, and the game will run itself. Except for the Antlion... make sure you don't go over the sands outside the first building (as you go outside for the first time) while there are insects buzzing over it. Don't even try to jump it. Wait until they stop, then run across. Beyond that the game plays itself.

"MY GOD, YOU'RE A MONSTER! lol."

date: June 26, 2008

Lol. funniest thing I ever heard. This gets a 5, close to perfect. It is particularly impressive that this is a solo project. I liked the Halo reference in particular, it relates, by the way, to another project the author is working on. The fireworks and helium ones were particularly funny. The others brought chuckles, except perhaps for the coffee one which seemed a bit too random, and I didn't find it funny.

MY GOD, YOU'RE A MONSTER! lol. ITS HIDDEN, so you'll need to find it. I didn't find it first time I saw this.

"Best one yet."

date: June 20, 2008

That was really good. Totally fresh stuff. And I must say, you're drawing and animating skills have improved somewhat. Plus, she didn't even mean to kill them! It was accidental this time! Makes a change from the homicidal maniac that we've all come to love! (and fear)

Well done. Keep them coming in this vein... and can we see something of Shirabe and Shihoka in the movies?

"Classic stick humour"

date: June 11, 2008

Classic stick humour. And a superb movie. I liked how it didn't show the violence, just a forlorn message. That was a nice touch. I'll be recommending this to the sticks collection.

A little too frustrating, but an almost perfect game. The physics, style, and the sheer replayability of it makes this a fun and addictive game. Well done on this masterpiece.

A pass from me. It was the funny bit at the end that makes this a 4 star 2 instead of a 3 star two. It was an amusing style. You've got promise, now go work on something more ambitious!

"What there is of it... acceptable."

submission: Newgrounds Fighter

But boring. There's no strategy, you just keep punching and hope you win (the kick's useless.) Add a block, more moves and a dodge function. Then resubmit. For a test this passes.

June 10, 2008

Author's Response:

i will add a block eventually, i just need to tweak with the actionscript. i will make the fighting faster and more exciting and add more enemys as you go on in the game, but as i say it was only a demo version!
thanks for leaving a review!
